Dune Study – Pure Palladium
Artist Statement
Time in nature feeds my soul and energizes me. The more remote, isolated, and quiet the better. From time to time I witness something that draws me in and inspires me. It may be a vast dune field or a thousand year old tree on top of a mountain. These moments have a way of crystallizing my place in this world. Occasionally I feel an overwhelming sense of clarity and realize my next long term project has entered the incubation stage. In that instance I don’t know how I will ultimately capture and interpret it, but I know my journey to realize it’s artistic potential has started.
My projects evolve over years. I tend not to share early iterations as I don’t want external input to influence my path of discovery. It takes time to learn a new subject: how the light interacts with it, textures, lines, shapes, and geometry. A natural reductive process yields simplification and abstraction. Metaphors rise to the surface. New motifs reveal themselves. Various interpretations and presentations eventually converge. Completion can never be estimated but is obvious when it arrives.

Textura
A body of work seeking to capture the graphic simplicity and purity of the natural world while reflecting on our relative insignificance to the power of nature. The study of lines, shapes, textures, layers and tonal relationships provide a visual playground while the mind contemplates the metaphors embedded in the wind sculptured landscape.
Forma
A body of work seeking to capture the graphic simplicity in the landscape while providing a quite place for the mind to rest in a world intent on assaulting the senses. The study of simple lines, geometric shapes, and simple tones provide a contemplative space.
Turbino
A body of work seeking to capture natures energy and evolution resulting from swirling winds reflecting on life’s journey and experiences along the way. The lines, textures, soft tones evoke personal metaphors for life experiences. The ever evolving landscaped mirrors our journey through life.
Antiqua Anima
A body of work seeking to capture the resilience and adaptability found in nature. Every subject is between one and four thousand years old. They have adapted to the harshest of conditions and thrived. Contemplation of the over thousand year process yielding beautiful lines and textures is awe inspiring. Our relatively short longevity seems so insignificant in comparison.
Sui
A body of work exploring a minimalist landscape causing an examination of our sense of self. A minimal palette, metaphoric lines and subjects provide a basis for introspection. The scaling and placement of subjects relative to minimal lines provide a examination of our sense of self.
